Can You Live at Home During a Renovation?
· 2 min read

For most projects, yes. Most of our clients stay home while we work. How easy it is depends on which part of the house is under construction.
Room by room
- Basement development: the easiest to live through. The work is contained downstairs, and you keep full use of your main floor. Expect some noise and short water or power shut-offs when trades connect new lines.
- Bathroom: very doable if you have a second bathroom. If it's your only one, let us know and we'll plan the work to keep downtime short.
- Kitchen: the hardest. Plan for several weeks without a full kitchen. A temporary setup with a microwave, kettle, fridge and a small table goes a long way.
- Whole-home renovation: some families choose to stay elsewhere during the messiest phases, like demolition, drywall sanding and floor finishing.
How we keep it liveable
- Dust barriers and floor protection between the work area and your living space
- Clear daily start and finish times
- A clean job site at the end of every day
- Advance notice before any water, power or gas shut-off
Tips to make it easier
- Clear the work area and nearby rooms before we start
- Keep kids and pets out of the work zone
- Set up a temporary space for whatever room you're losing
- Plan meals and laundry around the noisiest weeks
