The Story
The Goal
The homeowners wanted to turn an unfinished basement into a safe, legal, rent-ready secondary suite: a fully self-contained home with its own kitchen, bathroom, and living space that would generate reliable rental income and add long-term value to the property.
What We Did
We handled the project from permits to final inspection. Working to the Alberta Building Code and City of Calgary secondary suite requirements, we built the fire separation between units, installed interconnected smoke and CO alarms, and made sure every bedroom had code-compliant egress. We then finished the space with a full kitchen, a bathroom, durable flooring, and bright pot lighting to make the basement feel open and inviting. The full project was completed in 10 weeks.
The Result
A bright, modern legal suite with a full kitchen and an open living and dining area, registered with the City of Calgary and ready for tenants. The finishes are clean and durable: grey shaker cabinets with matte black hardware, a white vertical tile backsplash, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and light luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout.
