The Story
The Goal
The homeowners had a brand-new build with a bare backyard and nothing off the patio doors. They wanted an outdoor living space with privacy from the neighbours and a low-maintenance finish that holds up to Calgary winters.
What We Did
We built a raised composite deck on concrete pile footings, with engineered timber framing designed by Cjay. The finish is two-tone: warm cedar-tone boards with a grey picture-frame border and matching grey skirting. Black aluminum glass railings keep the view open, horizontal privacy screens close off both sides, and a wide set of centre stairs on steel stringers leads down to the yard.
The Result
A clean, modern deck that matches the home's dark siding and black window frames, turning an unfinished backyard into a space ready for summer evenings, with almost no upkeep.
